How ‘Infinity Challenge’ and ‘1 Night, 2 Days’ Handled Their Comebacks

KBS2’s 1 Night, 2 Days and MBC’s Infinity Challenge differed in the way they handled their return to their viewers.

After their respective stations′ strikes, one program bowed to the viewers saying it was sorry, while the other laughed and thanked them for the support.

Infinity Challenge is now up and running again. After the conclusion of MBC′s 174-day-long labor strike that started in January, it returned to its viewers on July 21.

On this day, the members got together in an ‘Infinity News’ section and talked about what had happened to the members during their time off, and the show then followed up with a summary of the ‘Haha vs. Hong Chul’ battle that had been interrupted by the strike.

The seven members of Infinity Challenge, Yoo Jae Suk, Park Myung Soo, Jung Joon Ha, Haha, Noh Hong Chul, Jung Hyung Don and Gil, said, “We thank you for your support, and we’ll repay you with our hard work.”

These were words of thanks for those who had waited a long 174 days for their return. There was, however, no apology, and the producers didn’t apologize either.

This is completely different from the way 1 Night, 2 Days came back after the KBS strike in April.

Producer Choi Jae Hyung and the members of the production team had participated in the National Press Labor Union’s KBS Headquarters strike, making it inevitable for the show to miss a few episodes.

The strike seemed to go on longer than originally thought, however, and producer Choi put together an emergency press conference after six weeks had passed, saying, “The goal of strikes isn’t to ruin the programs. We’ve decided to start producing again because [1 Night, 2 Days] is a program that clearly shows the side effects [of the strike].”

Kim Seung Woo said in the comeback episode, “It’s been a long time since we’ve seen you. We’ll make sure we give you better laughs and more touching stories.”

Lee Su Geun, Uhm Tae Woong, Kim Jong Min, Cha Tae Hyun, Sung Si Kyung and Ju Won had then bowed down with Kim Seung Woo, saying, “We’re sorry, and thank you.”

The producers also apologized through captions onscreen.

Broadcasts are a promise the staff, channel and cast make with the viewers. Viewers were inconvenienced by the absence of the show, and while 1 Night, 2 Days and Infinity Challenge handled their comebacks differently, their comebacks are somewhat bittersweet.
